Claire V. Ficker, LPC

Claire Ficker is a Licensed Professional Counselor who earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and her Master’s degree in Counseling from Regent University. Claire began her counseling career with a strong desire to help people find healing from trauma and the shame that usually accompanies it. Claire grew up in Norfolk and has a heart for the unique difficulties faced by military families. She also served in youth ministry for several years, through which she witnessed the complicated relational consequences of attachment failures often associated with family dysfunction and abuse. Claire is an EMDRIA Certified EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) therapist and finds the protocol’s direct approach to be effective, focused, and client-centered while also teaching clients the art of managing their own affect disregulation. Claire is also a Qualified Provider of Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) and finds the 12-session structured approach to treatment for PTSD both effective and educational.

Claire ascribes to an Eastern Biblical perspective for care in which attachment love is the most powerful healing force, every person is created in the image of God, redemption is available to all people, and self-awareness, the truth about oneself, informs the principle “you shall know the truth and the truth shall set you free.” Claire ascribes to a psychodynamic and cognitive behavioral approach to care. She considers attachment failure and traumatic childhood life events as catalysts for maladaptive neurological information processing resulting in psychological, relational, and behavioral problems. Claire finds great joy in helping people discover the truth of their profound value.

Beyond her therapy work, Claire loves spending time with her children and grandchildren, playing pickleball, swimming, practicing yoga, and learning how to do life more meaningfully.
